Part of building and owning a new home and enjoying it to the fullest, is not only the interior of the home but the exterior as well. A well landscaped home defines your home and to an extent yourself as well. There are four primary styles of landscaping for surrounding your home, standard, natural, rustic, and contemporary.
Standard landscaping will consist of green grass that encompasses most of the unused land. Low maintenance shrubs and bushes are placed around trees, or edges where grass stops. Although, standard landscaping is close to natural landscaping, it is slightly more manicured but requires less work than the English or country garden.
As nature’s way has it, natural landscaping uses what is readily available. This type of landscaping is done more so in areas that do not have available light enough to support a healthy grass. An alternative is ground cover or what was already there. Of course shrubs bushes, and trees comprise most of the landscape for the natural setting.
More commonly attributed to surrounding country homes, the rustic landscape, consists of wild flower gardens with lots of color. These types of gardens require maintenance, but are a joyous paradise for those that love to garden. The English country garden with brick paved walkways meandering through a private garden that is a relaxing haven for all.
Contemporary landscaping mixes the elements of man made structures, such as buildings with natural trees and flowers. Such landscaping is common among city people or people that like shrubs, trees and flowers but do not necessarily have the time to take care of them.
These are the basic styles of landscaping, however, many other unique elements can be added to create your own outdoor setting that you will love to come home to every time.
